Need more Iron in Diet

I’ve talked to my doctor and my iron levels are extremely low.  She put me on iron pills and told me that it will help.  however, as I don’t want to be on iron pills for the rest of my life I want to learn about foods that will add more iron to my diet.  So far I’ve heard of spinach, liver, and one or two other items.  Also, to cut out cokes, because that keeps the iron from absorbing.  What other foods do you know of that will increase iron levels? Also, how much of these foods should I be eating? Is it just a little spinach or like massive amounts?
