Let me tell you one thing: I don’t know much about fashion. You can ask me what was in Valentino’s S/S runway in 2012 and I won’t know. I am not your blogger fashionista that pulls off the latest trends as if they were nothing. If I wear baggy things, I won’t look like I stepped out of a street style shot, I will look like I actually slept in the streets. But what I do know is that Zayn Malik as Versus Versace’s new designer is a bold move by Donatella.  Zayn’s design venture was announced in a press release a couple of months ago and the first look into the line will be available in February. The last designer to have his hands on Versus Versace was Saint Laurent’s new creative director Anthony Vaccarello. Vaccarello studied fashion and worked under Karl Lagerfeld (LEGEEEEEEEND) at Fendi specializing in fur. Vaccarello then went on to design his own ready to wear collection before designing many capsule collections for Vensus Versace.  As far as I know, Zayn’s venture into fashion is nothing more than an online store with what looks like tour merch (no shade) and a desert boot he designed with Giuseppe Zanotti.

So, let ‘s see if Zayn’s badass rocker vibe can help him design a line as amazing, fierce and popular as Vaccarello’s creations. Donatella talks about the possibility of Versus Versace having more people in the music industry design for her. It is certainly an interesting way to go for a fashion line but as she said “Versus was always close to music, linked always.” so who knows, we might see more rockstars (teen idols) as designers for high-end fashion lines.
