FOUNDER FRIDAY

by Gabriela Castillo on June 14, 2018

The first blog post for Haute2Wear was a little bit about the story of why and how it was created. Haute2Wear was created as a “safe haven” for women of all body types that love fashion. I was sick of checking out online stores that would flaunt these intimidatingly thin and blonde models wearing their clothes, it felt like their own version of the famous Mean Girls quote: “You can’t sit (shop) with us.” To me, it was very important that I create a company with inclusive fashion and no indication of what body types can wear what on this website, everything is for everyone. Period.

As the founder, fashion and my body type were never a match made in heaven. There were always styles I didn’t think I could rock because of what all the magazines would say about what my body type could “pull off”. A little bit more about me, I was overweight when I was a young girl. I was in a very impressionable age when being a size 0 was the equivalent of being important and worthy. After seeing all the positive connotations of being thin in the media, all I wanted was to be skinny. There was never a fat girl landing the hunky action hero, there was never a curvy model on the cover of a magazine. I was young and susceptible when Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie were the definitions of eating disorders, and they were the most popular among the tabloids and basically Hollywood elite. It seemed that I had to be thin to deserve the good things in life. At the young age of 13, I became anorexic and after that, it took me 12 years to finally accept and love my body.

You may be wondering “Why am I reading about some girl’s sob story while I just want to shop?”. I understand, it feels awkward to be talking about something so personal online. I am writing about this because my story is what inspired this website, the feeling of never being enough for the fashion world is the backbone of this company. I strive to create a cohesive theme among both straight size and plus size collection because no style should be limited to a certain body type or size.

So, if you’re interested in my Founder Friday posts, follow @haute2wear on Instagram. I will be posting a Founder Friday post on the Haute2Wear IG every Friday. The Founder Friday posts will talk about my journey in body positivity as well as my journey as a young entrepreneur.  If you have any questions or want to talk about anything, feel free to e-mail me at gabriella@haute2wear.com. I would love to get to know a little bit more about you babe!
